12/8/2024. golden age
recently i've become infatuated with this strange little golden age comic book called Do-Do [pictured]. it's a funny animal comic about funny animals in the circus, and the main character is the titular Do-Do, a dog clown. I've obtained issue 1 recently-the comics are actually much smaller physically than the average comic of the time, but it's 52 whole pages for 5 whole cents! wow!
now, given how long it's been since this comic came out (1950) and how the copyright was likely never renewed, how do you find it to read it? you could pay a fair bit of money to get an issue off of ebay...or you could go to comicbookplus!
Comicbookplus is a site where you can read public domain comics for free! it's entirely legal to host them, as everything hosted is confirmed to be public domain/given permission to be hosted, but it does take money to host so many images, so donations to the site are open. i'd recommend donating to them if you're able, it's an amazing resource to read old comics for free. it's also a good resource if you're looking to study the art styles of the time.
you can read a few do-do issues for free on the site-but as all the scans have been contributed by volunteers, some issues are missing. i myself will be working to remedy that-an issue that the site doesn't have is on its way to me, and i'll be sure to scan it and upload it there once i've got it to help complete the set and preserve it for all time (hopefully).
that's all for now. work on Silly World has slowed down for a bit as I wrap up this college semester + work on some fnaf fangame work with the bunnyman team. thank you for reading, see you soon.
11/19/2024. peace/work
i'm still hard at work on that comic project i mentioned last post. in the meantime, i've found myself being more at peace. Maybe it's because I got off the [actual] hellsite known as twitter, but i've just been existing and realizing that a lot of things that i thought mattered don't really matter so much anymore. we're all in this together. and in the end, I just really want my art to be known-to affect people, to make people happy. all my work can be traced back to me, and that's fine. i am who i am who i am.
i've also ended up in the cartoonist cooperative, and on top of that, i'm in their e-sims for gaza program. If you donate an e-sim, you can get a free bit of art from me. you can find out more info here.
also to reiterate my commissions are still open and at this rate will be open for a very long time. if you want to help me out a bit consider getting a comm.
Silly World is now at 37/?? pages sketched. a release date will be given once I finish the trailer-it'll likely just be a surprise drop.
Thank you for reading.
11/5/2024. Comic project in the works
I'm working on a new comic project. It's called Silly world. It's about an angelhund named Leche and a living plush doll who go to a dimension called Silly World in an attempt to teach Leche what being silly truly means. It'll come out sometime-whenever it's finished. Below is a super duper exclusive sneak peak of the cover, so far only posted here on this page of the site:
Anyway, I'll see you later.
10/10/2024. Danger in the world
With the worsening climate being shown clearly to us by Hurricane Milton, sometimes I wonder how much worse it's gonna get in my lifetime. I'm young-as of writing this I have yet to turn twenty-so I'll live to see it, I'm sure. It's scary, watching how bad things are getting, but as my astronomy teacher said we just have to make a political push enough to reverse things. The time to reverse is getting shorter, so we gotta do it fast. Good thing a lot of my gen are old enough to vote now.
I try to avoid succumbing to a doomerist mindset because that's not gonna do a thing. There's no point to just sitting around moping doing nothing because you think it's too damn late. I might as well just keep drawing and doing stuff. That's all I can do, all that I'm best at, and I will not stop creating, ever. Ever.
10/7/2024. Life purpose, cont. [+ why i create]
I'm planning on making such an absurdly large body of artwork that people will be able to dig through it for hours, looking at everything i've done and seeing my progression. I'll draw what I want and post it wherever I can. I have a footprint, I know it, and I partially want it to be there [the worst i've done online is be an embarassing annoying teenager-i could do without that lol]. I want people to be inspired by what I do. I want people to want to create like I have. In this world where it feels like the creative arts are being choked by large money-hungry corporations and stripped to the bone by genai for the sake of saving a few bucks, I want to bring people to want to create. I still want to be able to publish a comic physically someday, somehow, someway, but I've grown more comfortable having the majority of my works be digital lately. The internet is not forever like some claim-links die, yadda yadda-but damn if i'm not gonna make sure that it'll be clear that I have existed.
This feels like the kind of reflective message that you're meant to write towards the end of your life-I hope that's not now for me! I want to live a very long time, as long as possible. This way I can draw and create as much as possible, for as long as possible.
anyway, the main page of this site needs a bit of a redo to look better on mobile devices. I'll see what I can do. I'll also change the hyperlinks to my socials and comics so that they stylistically fit in with the rest of the index.
9/19/2024. Life purpose.
my purpose in life is to make things that leave a mark. i shall not be wholly forgotten. i will post and leave a large body of work behind for people to look at. that is what shall happen this is why I must live as long as I can. I know I have an internet footprint, down to my middle school days, but it's pretty innocuous aside from being cringe and I like being able to see my old art. I regret deleting certain "cringe" pieces back in the day, but I'm happy with what's still up. I like having a body of work to look back on. When I'm gone in like 50 years I hope people will like looking back on that work, too.
9/17/2024. Yarrrrf!
Recently my Complete Yarf! Vol. 5 issue came in (recently being yesterday) and I've been working on reading through it (a tall order given the textbooks I'm required to read for college, but I digress). This collection came out this year but the content within is from the 90s and is published as-is, unchanged. It's super interesting to read an article inside about "recent" furry media releasing, and all of the artwork inside has that kind of "old-school/old-internet" kind of look to it. You can tell it's more amateurish work, but that quality just makes it all the more special to me. In an era of AI-gen slop flooding services like google images, it's nice to see works with flaws that could only come from a human. The earnest passion of the artists comes through in their work, and it is so unbelievably refreshing.
Yarf! was an APA (amateur press association) anthology series that published comics, writings, and individual art pieces. It's technically still active, but seemingly only to publish collected volumes like the one I recently recieved. APAs don't really exist in the same capacity as they used to, what with the advent of the internet allowing anyone to publish anything and all, but they were pretty important in circulating "nerd"/geek/smaller fandom content and "keeping the torch of mutual interest lit" (as stated in the aforementioned Yarf volume I received).
Anyway, I find the whole thing to be pretty inspirational. If they could circulate their stories with fewer resources at their disposal than I have, then why can't I? Makes me want to work on more comics.
9/16/2024. the blog has been started.
I don't really have much to talk about on this day. I've been working on some comics for things I can't talk about yet. I've been obtaining more vintage small-press comics too. It's a lot of fun reading them and seeing how much has changed since the nineties. If you want to get some old anthropomorthic animal-related comics (or just old comics in general for a good price), I recommend looking at Second Ed comics. They've got some great stuff and the prices are even better (at least, if you're in the USA-their shipping prices for Canada are...high.)
In other news, I've been trying out OpenMPT lately. It's a music tracker software that's been around for ages (1997!) and is free to use. It's different from DAWs like FL Studio or LMMS, but I somehow find it easier to wrap my head around.
